In the department "Legal, Compliance and Intellectual Property" headed by the General Counsel, the IP Professionals in the "Head of Intellectual Property Management" team are responsible for the structures for managing the cellcentric IP portfolio, in particular patents, in collaboration with all relevant colleagues. In the rapidly developing fuel cell technology, the IP Professionals are part of a globally active, innovative engineering environment with a wide range of development opportunities.

 

In the role of (Senior) IP Professional (m/f/d), you will primarily act as an advisor on intellectual property (IP) matters, in particular patent law, and be a first point of contact for inventions and all aspects of intellectual property.


Responsibilities: 

  • You support all development projects in the identification of inventions for patent protection;
  • You contribute to the drafting of patent applications to achieve worldwide protection, assist in the filing and prosecution of German, European and other foreign patent applications and you provide instructions to external legal counsels to achieve the best possible IP protection;
  • You carry out prior art searches and help to set up a suitable knowledge management system (e.g. in databases);
  • You analyze and evaluate third-party patents in technological areas that are relevant to cellcentric as well as our own IP and third-party patents in the course of "Freedom to Operate" analyses and you develop suitable solutions;
  • You participate in IP product and process clearings of the departments “Development” and “Operations” according to project milestones;
  • You investigate whether cellcentric IP rights have been infringed and you initiate appropriate measures;
  • You advise the company and inventors in Germany and in Canada and you support the implementation of inventor compensation issues and the negotiation of agreements;
  • You conduct internal training for employees in IP and patent matters.

 

Experience and Qualification: 

  • You have successfully completed a university degree in natural sciences, mechanical engineering, engineering, automotive or electrical engineering, materials science or similar, ideally with good technical knowledge of fuel cell technology;
  • You have several years of professional experience working in an in-house IP department or in a patent law firm drafting and prosecuting patents for direct clients and therefore have experience in portfolio management and using patents to support business objectives;
  • Preferably you are fully qualified as a European and/or German Patent Attorney;
  • You are a team player with very good organizational skills (setting priorities, structuring tasks and completing them on time) and a strong sense of responsibility;
  • You enjoy working in a fast-changing innovative international business environment in interdisciplinary global teams in German and English with business fluency;
  • You quickly analyze and grasp technical, legal and economic contexts. You enjoy researching and communicating details and negotiating to find the best solution for all stakeholders;
  • You are willing to acquire the relevant knowledge about technical compliance in product development for fuel cell technology;
